mifold has been regularly crash tested successfully in certified facilities around the world and meets or exceed the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard: FMVSS 213 as defined by NHTSA (the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).
The simple fact is that today, in one in five journeys, children do not have a car seat: in carpools, with grandparents or other relatives, in taxis, on vacations, in rental cars, with three-in-a-row and so on. And this does not include bigger kids on the border of the regulatory limits, who do not want to appear babyish to friends, who have already outgrown child restraints.

The mifold Grab-and-Go booster seat is more than 10x smaller that a regular booster seat and just as safe*. Measuring only 10”, by 4½”, by 2” and weighing less than 1¾ pounds, a child can easily keep one with them at all times. Drivers can keep spare boosters, without cluttering up their car and losing baggage space.
The mifold Grab-and-Go booster seat is safety tested and meets or exceeds the US-based Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard: FMVSS 213 as defined by NHTSA (the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). International versions also meet or exceed ECE R44.04 in the EU, and RSSR from Transport Canada.

How did you come up with the idea for this product?
In 2001, I had a vision to create a child car safety seat that was so compact and portable that my children could keep one with them all the time and be safe, no matter whose car they were in. This vision came from my own need. Our children were often in other people’s cars without safety seats: especially when we were carpooling with local families for the school run. I thought, if I could make a booster that was really small and really tough – one that could easily be taken everywhere – then our children could always be safe, no matter whose car they are in. It took a few years, and now my children are too old for booster seats, so I am delighted that other parents and caregivers are benefitting from the invention.

mifold is more than 10x smaller than a regular booster seat, and just as safe. mifold is completely different to all other Child Restraint Systems and succeeds in being so compact and portable by completely redefining the way booster seats work.
Regular booster seats lift the child up to be in the position of an adult; mifold does the exact opposite: instead of lifting the child up, it holds the seatbelt down (it’s that simple). The patented design takes the seat belt of the stomach and the neck, making safe, comfortable and easy to use. If the child does not need to be lifted, then the booster can be flat. If it can be flat, then it can be folded, making it both compact and portable.
mifold is the size of a paperback book: 10” long and 2” thick, it is less that 4 and a half inches wide when folded and weighs less than 1.8 pounds. This incredibly small, tough device is achieved using super tough plastic polymers (such as Delrin 100ST from Dupont) and 6061-T6 aircraft grade aluminium. Top designers, engineers, and industry experts together have created mifold. It is protected by U.S. Pat. No. 9,376,088 with various other patents and design registrations granted or pending.

What has been the best part of your startup experience?
The most rewarding moments come when children, parents and other caregivers tells how much the love and appreciate mifold. Today, tens of thousands of children are riding more safely in cars than before they received their mifold Grab-and-Go booster seat.
The best part of the experience is working with such a wonderful, motivated and dedicated team. The mifold employees, our industrial designers, mechanical engineers, material scientists, manufacturing partners, supply chain and logistic experts and sales people, retailers and distributors, are all focused on the same vision. The knowledge that together we are improving the safety of children in cars, and can help reduce the number of injuries and deaths worldwide, is wonderful. This is why we all come to work in the morning. I had a vision 15 years ago. Today it is a reality.
